Women's ailments
In contrast to men, women begin early with the worries about their health. Every now and then mothers bring their girls to the practice and ask whether the adolescent developments are too early or too late. Many paediatricians and mothers have the impression, that breast development of girls at the onset of puberty seems to come on earlier (already at the age of 8 to 10) nowadays. Sometimes mothers of vegetarian families report, that their daughters are “delayed” in this respect of puberty development compared with their peers. These observations and the knowledge about modern mass production of milk and meat products, above all the use of synthetic hormones in animal rearing, lead to the belief that this tendency has to do with the somewhat “masked” intake of artificial hormones through our food which then, with time, exert their noticeable effects on the human body.
Many young women suffer from disturbances of the menstruation in the sense of irregularity of the periods, or symptoms of PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome) with lower abdominal pains and mood swings before the period. Unfortunately the birth control pill has become a trendy prescription. Far too many young girls think that they must also have this magic pill like all the other girlfriends, in order to be cool, to be able to enjoy free sex and that the period could be more bearable and the acne better. Most of the women do not realize, however, that the pill turns off the female productivity (or fertility) completely and in so doing brings grave consequences and disturbances in the hormone system of the body. A lot of women stop the pill because of obvious and unbearable side effects such as weight gain or headaches. Unfortunately, they often do not know of any better alternative other than a “Hormone ring” or the “Hormone IUD”.
Nausea could occur during the first weeks to months of pregnancy, which indicates a hormonal change or disturbance. Repeated miscarriages are possibly due to a deficiency of progesterone. After delivery of the baby, some women suffer from postnatal depression, again a result of unstable hormone levels.
During the fruitful years of a woman's life, problems such as heavy menstrual bleeding, ovarian cysts (PCOS), Myoma or Endometriosis are often reasons for conventional operative treatments. Later in the menopause, women with complaints of hot flushes, excessive sweating and sleep disturbances are often treated with “HRT” (Hormone replacement therapy) which uses synthetic substances not identical to the body's own hormones. This is now known to be associated with increased risks of cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
An imbalance of the intricate hormone system underlines almost all of these women's health issues. Through an examination of the hormone levels in saliva or blood ( read “special diagnostics”) the state of balance of the most important components of the hormone network can be evaluated. Bio-identical hormones as a substitutional treatment or Chinese herbal medicine as a regulatory therapy could be necessary and helpful. Acupuncture can alleviate nausea of pregnancy and headaches. Homoeopathy contributes to a constitutional stabilisation.
